Client Services

Individual Therapy

As the name suggests, individual therapy is all about the client as an individual. People seek professional help for a variety of mental health issues. My specialities include depression, anxiety, grief, behavioral issues, and adjustment problems for children and adults.

Individual therapy begins with a comprehensive hour-long intake session in which I assess current symptoms and gather relevant background history. I then offer a preliminary diagnosis and a treatment plan to assist in addressing issues raised. Subsequent therapy sessions typically last about 50 minutes and the frequency of appointments will depend on your specific treatment plan. Regular attendance is strongly recommended for the fastest path to recovery. I specialize in solution-focused, evidence-based treatment. Although my clinical services draw upon an eclectic array of treatments, my primary orientation is cognitive-behavioral.

When you enlist my services, you can expect to be treated with respect, understanding, and compassion. I provide a warm, safe, and comfortable setting and encourage you to work through issues at your own pace. But you will also be challenged and engaged — only through hard work can behavioral change occur.

Family Therapy

Family therapy may be the treatment of choice for families in crisis or families dealing with significant relationship challenges. As with individual therapy, the intial family therapy session is a comprehensive one-hour assessment in which current issues and relevant background history is gathered. A treatment plan is developed based on the issues raised in this initial session. Subsequent family therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and may include various combinations of family members as deemed appropriate to meet the various treatment goals for the family. My specialties in the area of family treatment include parenting issues, co-parenting issues in families of divorce, and adjustment challenges faced by separating and divorcing families.

Group Therapy

Group therapy can augment individual treatment plans, and sometimes it even replaces the one-on-one sessions completely. Group therapy provides a comfortable setting for real-life interaction with others. In adult groups, group members can discuss their problems honestly and give each other feedback and positive reinforcement. In addition, group members can receive coaching in interaction and communication skills directly from their group therapist. With children, groups are more structured and the therapist provides some direct instruction regarding social and communication skills. Children also receive feedback from the group therapist and their peers when they are engaged in some limited, unstructured play.

Parent Coordination

A Parenting Coordinator (PC) is a court-appointed professional who assists parents in high conflict divorce situations. A PC aids parents in decreasing conflict, increasing effective communication with one another, and making parenting decisions which are in accord with their custody/visitation order. Some basic elements of parent coordination include the following:

  • Educating parents about childrens’ needs and the impact of divorce
  • Reducing childrens’ stress following separation/divorce
  • Assisting in childrens’ adjustments to transitions between parents’ homes
  • Coaching parents on how to resolve differences and disagreements about their children
  • Assisting with decisions about transportation, exchanging children, and managing holiday and vacation schedules
  • Making decisions on issues outlined in the court order when parents are unable to reach a compromise
